I really think Jackson's done. He can barely walk at this point. I think the Knicks will reach out to him, but Simmons wrote a good article on why Jackson's likely done forever and it was pretty convincing. Mullin and Houston are probably the leading candidates for Donnie's replacement, and the coaching gig is anyone's guess really. I think the tabloids are going to spin the hell out of a Zeke return, and you will probably too, but I don't think it'll happen. I think this is a decision based more on the fact that this team should have been a lot better than it is by now. Dolan gave Walsh an open checkbook and 3 years to put a winner on the floor. In exchange he received several bumbled draft picks, the Lebron fiasco (which included basically sacrificing 2 full seasons to clear cap room for their pitch), and finally having to get the Melo deal practically done on his own because Walsh couldn't swing it.

Or didnt want to swing it

How did Miami not foul as soon as Dirk got the ball in his hands? WTF? You've got a foul to give and you're going to let him drive?

They got the JiF scouting report, which stated that Dirk is incapable of putting the ball on the floor to get to the rack.

No, this is exactly the case anymore. Just because we haven't seen a Game 7 doesn't mean the playoffs haven't been competitive.

The league's been top heavy for over a decade dude, Miami had nothing to do with it. And this has probably been one of the greatest postseasons ever.

I disagree. These playoffs have been an absolute bore outside of the couple of Dallas comebacks.

And the league has been top heavy in the west for sure...the east, has seen quit a few champs over the last decade. Magic, Cavs, Pistons, Celtics, Nets, Sixers, Heat...bunch of different teams have represented the east.

They got the JiF scouting report, which stated that Dirk is incapable of putting the ball on the floor to get to the rack.

You're never going to let that go, eh? Never mind the fact that my original premise rings true.

The worst part about you rehashing this all the time, is I said Dirk was a stud...multiple times. He puts the ball on the floor, but please, lets not act like thats what he wants to do. He'd rather settle for the jumper all day.

But the guy is awesome and I really want to see him get a ring.

That LeBron deal pretty much put Walsh in the coffin and then the Melo mess nailed it shut. Not getting James was really bad, but the fact that they were not even in the running had to kill Dolan. At one point the rumor was that James was more enamored with the Nets (which was not true), but I guess most did agree that they did a better job of presenting to James. I thought Melo was just a disaster. They could have had him so early in the process and probably for less than they gave up if they were just willing to part with Gallo from day 1. They would have had way more time to gel and probably could have kept their point guard to bridge the team until they can make a run at Paul and Williams.

Anyway, the GM is not a big deal as long as you have someone competent. Scouting in the NBA is way different than the NFL. For the most part unless you pick high in the draft you arent finding anyone of merit. You need a guy with some knowledge of Europe and not to be such a fool to select a guy like Darko over Melo. You have to be a guy that can keep a roster flexible by not getting in way over your head in contracts and moving too many players for future picks (this is really where the last two Knicks GMs failed by giving the team no current or future flexibility) and be able to make a sales pitch to free agents. You also have to be able to project if your mid level guys fit the system or not. Now if the cap becomes a hard cap maybe it becomes a much tougher job (and I could see a number of NFL contact specialists getting huge promotions to leave the NFL and move to big market NBA teams looking to learn to skirt the new cap rules), but there is so much less to the NBA GM than an NFL one.

Both were results of previous failures 100% attributable to him as well. Passing on Gordon for Gallo, and Jennings for Hill wound up being disastrous, hugely underrated blunders. I was a Gallo fan, and still am, but Gordon's twice the player. In retrospect Walsh should have acted late last fall on Melo immediately when he said he wanted to be in New York after that game in the Garden. At the time most thought he would eventually be a Knick anyways, including myself, but it's his job to know that Melo wasn't going to leave that extension on the table, which in turn gave Denver more and more leverage as the deadline loomed closer.

Also in retrospect, whiffing on Lebron was the biggest miss in the history of this franchise. Period. You watch how good he's been this postseason, in a year where he probably should have won his 3rd straight MVP, it's infuriating. Cap room, the greatest free agency class ever, and he failed.

You combine all of that, and I can't really blame Dolan for not wanting to give him complete autonomy. Why should he? It's worth noting that Hahn and Broussard have both reported that there is absolutely, 100% NO chance Dolan is looking to bring Zeke back. So it's quite possible he's just gotten over the bizarre, blind loyalty he's shown towards his employees in the past and just isn't going to stand for mediocre work anymore.

Right? And the weird part is that Dallas didn't get Matt39's scouting report stating that Lebron can't blow by people anymore. WTF?

He doesnt really anymore. Watch the games....however it is fun watching him shoot his hero 3's down the stretch.

Wade pretty much took over last game. All hate aside, I love watching Lebron, Nowitzki and Wade play. This series has been great so far. And Bosch is still a soft POS. He gets poked in the eye and lays on the ground like a little girl acting like he can't stand up. DUDE, it's your eye, not your knee, leg or ankle. What a pansy. Dude flops more than anyone I've ever seen. And Jeff Van Gundy IS THE TRUTH! I'm tired of everyone praising guys for flopping and selling fouls. It defeats the entire purpose of the game.

Van Gundy is terrible. Have to say it's definitely been entertaining over the years hearing him leave Jackson speechless with some of the nonsense that comes out of his mouth.
