Elvis - not for me, did not enjoy, though I think the guy that played him nailed it.

That's basically how I felt about the movie. I thought the guy did a really fantastic Elvis but the movie was just not my thing.

Went and saw “Barbarian.” Clever, lo-fi horror flick. Really enjoyed it. Some legitimate scares without the cheap jump-cut trash you mostly get nowadays. Lots of self-conscious humor about the horror genre in general, and features a fun performance from Justin Long. Well worth the watch.

Same on Blonde. Hard to believe you can get me to turn off a movie with Ana in it, but they succeeded. Painfully bad.

I cant remember the last time my wife and I watched a movie and 45 minutes in I looked at her and was like, I cant do this anymore, it's painful and she agreed sadly because she loves Joyce Carol Oates and the book but it was just so hard to watch, we had to turn it off as well.

Finally bit the bullet and clicked on Netflix to watch Blonde.  Honestly, I was hoping to be the one dissenting person here to like the flick.  No worries.  Your opinions are safe.

My wife and I are about 50 minutes into the movie and we both think this thing is a cluster fuk.   At about the 20 minute mark, I actually said "WTF are they doing" out loud.   Just a poorly conceived screenplay and effort by the film's director.  From the very start, it's confusing and has you questioning the storytelling decisions.

Although we stopped the movie, we've committed to getting though this entire mess.  I need to see where this goes.

Coincidentally, Showgirls was on the other night.  And like Mommy Dearest, I've come to enjoy both flicks.  Not from their original, serious, attempts, but from a comedy perspective.  Both films are so absurdly silly and badly produced, but you are laughing at the over-the-top scenes throughout.  Even ones which would normally horrify a human being.   Blonde did not even have that going for it.   It's depressing and dull at the same time.  Even a threesome comes off (no pun) as poorly conceived (again, no pun) and uninteresting.  With Ana De Armas??!!  Wow.

As others have said, Ana De Armas is fine in the role.  Honestly though, I think she was terribly miscast.  It's a shame that she will now be associated with this train wreck.   I'll write my thoughts after completing...the movie.

Well said, look forward to hearing how they stick the landing because there is now way I could sit through it to the end.  lol

The other thing too, if you're like me and really know absolutely nothing about MM, this is worst possible potryal of her imaginable, like my opinion now of MM is forever changed and it's horrible, lmfao, feel bad for MM and her family, honestly.

Yeah, I don't know much about Marilyn's off screen life as well.   From what I've read the last few months, this film is not necessarily factual.  It's based on a novel by Joyce Carol Oates.

"How true is the movie Blonde?

While Blonde is a film about Marilyn Monroe, it is more based on the fictionalised story of her life in the novel of the same name, by Joyce Carol Oates. Oates described the book as a "radically distilled life in the form of fiction" in the Author's Note.

While details in the book and therefore the movie are based on Monroe's life, director Andrew Dominik has made it clear that the film is not meant to reflect true events. In an interview with Deadline(opens in new tab), he said, "I know an awful lot about Marilyn Monroe now. I’ve read all the major stuff...I’ve read all the biographies of all the other people that were in her life too, so I’m aware of what they think happened in most of the situations in her life. And I’m aware of how that’s different to the book Blonde. I did all that research and I used very little of it in the movie. Blonde the book was pretty much the bible for the film."

Watched "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" on Apple last night.

Wife and I both really enjoyed it.  It is funny, how Zac Effron went from a pretty boy to growing up into an actual actor, I highly recommend the movie.

I just subscribed to Apple+.   Thanks for the recommendation.  Looks cool.

Watched the movie last night with my family.  We all loved it.   Great story, especially as it's from real events.   Really appreciate the suggestion.

If you're interested, there are some good interviews on you tube with the actual guys from the story.

We watched the interview with Chickie, Zach and Farrelly in the extras.  Thanks for this one, rob.  What an amazing group of men who have maintained their strong friendship after all these years.

You know, I actually watched a couple of the Disney movies that made Zac Effron (High School Musical) and I've always liked the guy. When he started appearing in other movies every time I was like, that Zac Effron guy is pretty good I hope I see him in another movie. It's gotten to the point where if he is in a movie I'm more likely to check it out just to see how he does in it. Same thing with Adam Driver. When I first saw him in Star Wars TFA I hated the movie and his character but I never disliked the actor and every time I see him in a movie it's always been pretty good. If you haven't seen it I thought he was great in Marriage Story with Scar Jo.

IMO, I think Efron is a really talented guy and would probably kill it on Broadway. I thought he was hilarious in the 2 Neighbors movies.

Haha I forgot about those! I miss when movies were still funny.

Have you seen his "Down to Earth" series on Netflix? It's a fantastic watch, IMO.  He's a great dude.

Do you have any other recommendations (HBO, Netflix, Prime)?

In that vein? Off the top of my head: It Follows, Hereditary, Midsommar, Babadook, Mandy, Green Room, Get Out, Us, The VVitch, Colour Out of Space…etc. I have heard X and Pearl are incredible but I haven’t gotten to either yet.

People either love or hate James Wan flicks and I always enjoy his stuff. I thought Malignant was some seriously wild fun.

Thoroughly enjoyed Barbarian and it  lived up to the hype. Been saying it for years, this current era of horror movies is really one of the genre’s best.

I watched it last night.  It was a very fun watch!

Recommend to anyone in the mood for a "scary" movie.

I've seen Midsommar, VVitch, and most of James Wan's stuff.

I'll check out some the others if I can find them on my streaming services.

thanks again.

@JiFapono @JetPotato Finally got though Blonde yesterday.   It never improved at all.   It's a jumbled mess with long, unnecessary scenes.  Many out of left field without any context.  My wife said it perfectly:  If you didn't know anything about Marilyn Monroe, you'd be completely confused and clueless about the story.

Best part of the film is the art direction and overall look.  The rest like the direction, screenplay, editing and most of the acting is a complete disaster.
