I'll go out on a limb here--what has the Yankees ERA been with Jeter out of the lineup?

His replacement made two errors yesterday. It hurt the Yankees because they happened in the 9th and 10th innings. The Yankees will be glad to get his steady glove back in the lineup. Funny how people hate on hall of famers with so many rings.

His rings mean nothing. Right now he's a terrible hitter and a slightly below avg SS who has to play every day because of what he did 5 years ago and the yankees moronic contract giving practices.

Too bad Daniel Synder isn't looking for a GM. Your understanding of statistics would impress him greatly.

You're really gonna try to defend his performance last year and this year? He's been nothing short of awful. He hits grounds balls 65% of the time for the last 2 years. Line drives 11%. Do you realize how awful that is? It's the worst in baseball by like 10%. Should I get out the list of horrible players who are putting up better numbers than he is? What he did in 2007 means nothing now and they are hurting the team trotting him out there to break a meaningless record and placate his ego.

I am not defending him at all. I am saying that there was a zero percent chance the Yankees could have let him walk. This isn't a Madden roster. The fact that the stadium has 50,000 people per night is a huge factor. So to talk about it being a bad contract is just pointless.

They are not placating his ego. They are making a lot of money and extending the Yankee brand.

You know what fills a stadium? Winning. The idea that there would be some kind of fan revolt if they didn't give him that absurd contract is fantasy. Attendance is mediocre this year as it is. The only way there would be a fan revolt is if the team stopped winning.

You are wrong. There would have been a HUGE revolt if they let Jeter walk. Also, the mediocre attendance that you described this year is higher than the Yankees averaged in 2002. That was after 3 consecutive world series. Sure you have to win but the stars are what they market...

Maybe if they let him walk completely, however I think the perception overall is wrong how badly everyone wanted him back.

Winning games is what the fans ultimately want...and Jeter isn't helping the team do that.

I am not talking about the dollars in the contract, I am talking about letting him walk completely. He is overpaid, he was overpaid on his last contract. That is 100% a business decision because the Derek Jeter brand makes the Yankees much more money than they are paying him.

If the Yankees paid him a few million less, it doesn't lower the ticket prices any, so I just don't worry about that.

As a fan I really couldn't care less about Derek Jeter's brand. I care about the Yankees winning baseball games. But I guess that's what sports is about these days- catering to the casual, don't know much about anything other than Jeter and Arod type of fans.

I am not saying that you should care about his brand. But that is the bottom line. And Mike is missing that part, the Yankees resigned Jeter for more than his on-the-field performance. Same with ARod, having them retire as Yankees and head into the HOF is a huge financial plus for the franchise. And that is a HUGE part of the equation today.

What would a fan revolt look like to you? A winning Yankee team playing in an empty stadium as solidarity with Jeter? You really believe that would happen? The reality is that the media would've bitched about it for a week and no one would've given a crap just like what happened when the Yankees let Torre go.

No the reality is that the Yankees as an organization make more money with Jeter, than without him. That is why he got that deal.

His combined numbers in Texas are better than what he did with the Yankees (average).

Who knows if the Hall will even consider his steroid enabled stats, regardless. May all be moot.

My stance is that all the confirmed steroid guys should not be in the hall. But that won't happen, the early guys will pay the price but eventually I believe guys like ARod will get in.

Forgot about Boggs. That was a sham. Winfield chose correctly.

Yes, he the team that he should have gone in as paid him the most money!

Go back to whining. No one will respect your opinion because you're a dick to everyone.

In fairness he isn't a dick to everyone.

Far as I can tell he is nice to other Mets fans and some Yankee fans.

If Mark McGwire isn't getting in the Hall, why would ARod?

Look at McGwire. Look at ARod. That's why.

I'm fine with ARod not getting in for the record. Throw Clemens in prison, keep them all out of the Hall, I am totally fine with that actually.

Looks like Jeter is back. 2 hits tonight, Yankees rolling. If I were him, I would sit out tomorrow and ask for a better contract.

Another hit for the Captain. He gets 3 tonight, when I am there in person, and he is an automatic Hall of Famer.

They should induct him tomorrow.

You can respect and celebrate Jeter's career accomplishments. And they are great. he has been a major contributor to 5 championships.

Fact is he is having an awful season.

And the HBO documentary he allowed and commissioned for cash payment is a lot like his contract demands; he asked for it. No one held a gun to his head to demand $17 million per year, nor to have HBO pay him a small fortune, nor that bloodsucker Steiner to auction off everything associated with this 3000 chase down to his socks. And if you ask for all that attention, he shouldn't be surprised when objectively people point out he has become an old below average batter with zero pwoer and a middle infielder with limited range.

Further, Jeter is a boring guy, spare banging starlets. Most athletes are. He is not Curt Schilling, chock full of opinions whether you like them or not. He is not a genuinenly nice man like Adam Graves(which is not to say he's a bd guy, but by no means a saint). With the press, he is a cliche machine. In public appearances, unless you are a hot chick, he couldn't care less. So the idea that anyone is going to wait to see he insights-45 minutes of empty cliches on HBO- is really a waste of time.

Ultimately if Jeter has a problem with all this hype, he can look in the mirror for the guy to blame. For example, Tony Gwynn didn't do this. In fact he hit his 3000th hit in practically empty Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

Who said Jeter had a problem with any criticism?

He, like just about everyone would, is looking to maximize his earnings both on and off the field. This isn't really shocking.

And the Mets fans calling Jeter out, that is comical like Jone pointed out. They long to have a player like him for their franchise.

Hard to believe with all of the talent the Yankees have had over the years they've never had a 3,000 hitter.

It is amazing actually...

He is at 2,999 right now...

Whoever caught that ball just won the lottery. Bastard.

There was talk about that ball being worth 250k.

I would sell it to Jeter for 237k and he would have to be Facebook friends with me.

I've seen your Facebook. He should hold out for $220k

At least Facebook didn't ban me.

My son acquired the tickets Friday afternoon through his work, hes been wanting to go all season. After the rainout Friday night I knew we had a winner! We are both Yankees fans and hes a Derek Jeter fan always has been.

Max It was wild today! The house that Jeter built.

Jeter is up to .270, hopefully this was a sign of good things to come from him in the 2nd half. He looked good today, now that 3,000 is behind him, he can relax a bit.

Agreed and if the Yankees win the World Series I say he may retire.

That would shock me. He is younger than Pete Rose when Pete had 3,000 hits.

Apparently the kid thought Jeter was Latino.

What a fail.

I saw him mention that...thought it was weird as well.
