Nnamdi Asomugha Thread: MERGED

Recommended Posts

The longer he goes without signing, the less he'll be getting.

I am in pursuit of happiness. I'll let you know when I get there.

ok... but you want them to sign him now... and you think he will get less than Sidney Rice?

Okay, so we're throwing quarterback money at stopping Hines Ward and Pierre Garcon? It actually seems more practical to just have them both killed.

Max, and we are all Oso disappointed in him

The difference is I am saying anything is possible (because I nor you know the limitations) while you are throwing out made up limitations as if they are fact.

No, the difference is you're making an argument with no logical basis whatsoever, in that somehow this enormous contract the Jets would have to give out would have no impact on their salary cap, and your defense against why it doesn't make any damn sense in reality is that nobody can tell you you're wrong unless they're the Jets GM. That's the most asinine thing possible and if that's really the argument you want to make, you should really never bother posting on message board ever again. The fact that you say this while constantly know better than everyone about everything is just ultimately ironic.

I know better than nobody... never claimed to.

I am throwing my ideas out there just as you are.

You are the one who seems to think you have the better ideas.

Braylon's been saying he'll take a hometown discount for months, and right now he's still waiting for offers. So my best guess is: yes, he'd sign here for less than Sidney Rice.

You have zero idea how this will impact the teams salary cap. And if the past few years are any indication, the Jets haven't struggled at all with paying important players.

What is signing Nnamdi going to prevent this franchise from doing? The franchises future is completely tied to Sanchez's development. Arguing that signing one of the best cover corners ever, will somehow hurt them...is kind of foolish.

I think we should be happy that we're arguing who we should sign. People want to play here for a change.

No but he will cripple the cap in 3 years (the one we do not know about yet)... lol

I've been queit all day because im sick of this Nnamdi BS, I hope he signs in Houston or SF 20 minutes ago so the Jets can announce that they signed 2 decent CB's, WR, and a S in like 15 minutes after losing Nnamdi!

Out till he signs here or elsewhere.

Agree lets lock up Braylon Edwards and Antonio Cromartie.

I agree but I think Braylon will be a lot more forgiving than Cro will be haha They might have to repair that relationship a bit!

Screw Cro, theres CB's in FA that are just as good and alot cheaper. Get Jonathan Joseph or Chris Houston.

I def agree man. Plus Cro seems like a guy that may be kind of a dick and really hold this against them and ask for way too much money.

I see what you are saying here.. But I think you are looking at it too simplistically. Not only will it lock down a #2 receiver (ie take him out of the game ala Revis) but it will also free up another player (most likely a safety) which could be used to double another defender, or roam, or blitz or anything. You guys see the type of defenses that Rex is able to scheme when we take one receiver out of the game. If we can take out two, it ABSOLUTELY allows Rex to come up with even crazier defenses, which should confuse and frustrate opposing QBs. Either that, or the opposing QB will test Nnamdi or Revis, in which case, there is a good chance it results in an incompletion or INT.

Cro played well here, but he never SHUT DOWN opposing defenders. He was a very risky play on every snap, partly because of his inability or maybe unwillingness to jam the receiver at the line. From this respect, with what Cro or a similarly talented high paid #2 CB brings to the table, throwing 12 million at a defender only marginally improves the defense. If he is able to (and make no mistake about it, Aso does) essentially take out another receiver out of the game, it opens up limitless abilities for Mike and Pettine. Maybe getting rid of one receiver does not seem like that big an accomplishment in itself, but when you see the chain reaction and what we can do off of that-- there is no way you can not want him on our side.

I was being snarky.. I'm aware of the side effects...

If we get him we'll see.. Hope you all are right, cause anything short of an epic defense and it was a bad move imo

That is true... but without high risk there is no high reward...

I can't believe how many jetnationer's don't want Nnamdi, HELLO it's Nnamdi freaking Asomugha! When have the new era Jets and Mike T ever had any problems with the cap? Seems like some of the people on here are acting like they're the ones paying his contract, premier pass rushers for a 3-4 dont exactly grow on trees and neither do true lockdown corners, we've got a golden opportunity to get our SECOND true lockdown corner, that thought must just send shivers down Brady's girly spine

I love how Lombardi goes out and proclaims the texans the front runners merely because they have the most money to throw at him. This isn't news, they have always had the most money to throw at him, but unless he spoke to nnamdi personally he doesnt know a thing about what team is the front runner.

I'm sure he's talking to someone inside the negotiations probably someone close to the agent.

It must have been in Smashmouth's report.

Hush brooklyn :P

Someone posted BE was in the 6.5 per range few days ago I think in the unsubstantiated rumor thread. I said Holmes should have been signed in the 7-8 Mil range not the 10 we gave him. Im saying this now if we go into this season with this current WR crew we are ****ed as is Mark Sanchez. We need to get him a big target

Lombardi is a moron. Im not sure a few mil here or there will be what sways Nnamdi if the Texans offer 14 and the Jets are offering 12 there is a good chance he could still come here a very good chance. But i seems he might be waiting for some crazy a$$ huge offer before making up his mind and signing with the Jets which makes total sense someone coming in with 16-18 Im sure could change his mind.

I remember the excuses for Chadington not having a big target for a long time. I don't know if people still have that mindset, but it appears this franchise sure doesn't. We will see how that works out. Edwards was a big target and I saw him move the chains a lot when the Jets O just seemed stuck. I think they are banking on Randy Moss to be the target, but at this point in their careers Edwards is probably better.

how can he get 16-18 or heck 14ish for that matter when Revis only gets 11-12?

just realized aso is 30 (granted he just turned 30)which would be the same age woodson was when the packers signed him, that seemed to turn out pretty good for them. however they didnt have a revis on there team already. the jets need to get an answer out of this guy. the longer he waits to make a decision means we lose out on more players if we rejects us. my guy feeling is that we should just say screw aso and sign edwards, cro, and maybe ellis.

And clearly assuming having the two highest paid CBs in NFL history under contract to the same team will have absolutely no impact on the rest of the roster is a much more reasonable conclusion than thinking that it somehow will. How could I be so foolish.

how can he get 16-18 or heck 14ish for that matter when Revis only gets 11-12?

Because Revis isn't really get 11-12. The first two years of Revis' deal are worth $32.5 million, an average of $16.25 million per season. Upon signing the contract he made it pretty clear that his signing was based on that average pay, and that he would be looking for a new contract after year two of the contract (this year), so for all intents and purposes, Revis' deal is 16+ million per season right now, and that's what Asomugha's agent is certainly using as the basis for negotiations. Then let's not also forget the general markup in contracts that exist just for a player being in free agency as opposed to already under contract. That's the reason before FA even started that the rumors were in the $16 - $20 million range (although that doesn't sound like it's really going to happen).
