I have a theory about all these old players being sought after...

We've seen a trend over the past 5-10 years where a lot of head coaching, coordinator and even position coach jobs are being filled with younger and younger candidates. In that same span, we've seen the quality of players developed out of the draft diminish greatly - so much so that you can look at the past couple drafts, in the early rounds and find very few players that have panned out. Some were bums, sure... but many weren't given time, or sage coaches to work with and learn from.

Now, as a result of the league being flooded with young players that just aren't ready or incapable of stepping in - we are seeing teams that are widely considered contenders fawning all over aging veterans, to fill key roles on their teams.

Granted this is just a theory, and based entirely in heuristic assessment, but I do think we are seeing the repercussions of the "young coaches" trend, and it is manifesting itself as a rush on veteran players.

Thought it might be something fun to discuss, as opposed to the routine bickering between alarmists and level-headed Jets fans. Lets talk about trends in the league... its a bit less polarizing, so it hopefully won't digress into a debate.
