The Jets' bye week comes at the almost-midpoint of the season, which provides a good opportunity to take stock of the team. Let's crunch some numbers and compare the 2011 Jets (through seven games) vs. the 2010 Jets (16 games). We'll start with the offense.

OFFENSE

Major categories:

Total yards -- 2011: 300.1 (29th) ..... 2010: 351.0 (11th) ..... Difference: - 14.5%

Rush yards -- 2011: 92.4 (28th) ....... 2010: 148.4 (4th) ....... Difference: - 37.7%

Pass yards -- 2011: 207.7 (24th) ...... 2010: 202.6 (22nd) ..... Difference: +2.5%

Point per/g -- 2011: 24.6 (11th) ....... 2010: 22.9 (13th) ....... Difference: +7.4%

Other key areas:

3rd Dn con -- 2011: 38.3% (17th) ..... 2010: 39.6% (15th)

Sack/pplay -- 2011: 6.9% (22nd) ...... 2010: 5.1% (T8th)

Red zone -- 2011: 61.9% (6th) ........ 2010: 44.3% (28th)

Analysis: The Jets put a major emphasis on improving their red-zone performance, one of the reasons they hired consultant Tom Moore, and you can see a dramatic jump in touchdown efficiency. Problem is, there has been a decline in almost every other area, especially the running game. They've improved in scoring, but that figure is a bit deceiving because it includes four return touchdowns. A year ago, they had five return touchdowns for the entire season. If you look at the scoring in terms of offensive touchdowns per game, it's pretty much even -- 2.29 this year, slightly up from 2.13. The bottom line is, more was expected of the offense.

T.O. works out with nobody in attendance

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg |

It’s a good thing that the NFL Network carried Terrell Owens’ workout Tuesday afternoon from Calabasa, California, because there wasn’t one NFL team present to watch it.

Profootballtalk reports that no teams and no scouts were present for the workout.

Owens ran pass routes and did agility tests to show off his surgically repaired knee and his ability to cut and run. Casey Hansen, a former Norfolk State quarterback who was in a Philadelphia Eagles training camp as an unsigned free agent acted as QB for Owens.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus has said the Tennessee Titans are interested in Owens but Titans coach Mike Munchak denied the rumor saying the team had no plans to send a rep to the workout.

How them mighty have fallen. A few years ago there would be like 10-15 teams lining up just on hearing the mention of T.O!

And now no one!
