A relatively uneventful chapter in the Mike Goodson legal saga unfolded quickly at the Morris County Superior Court this morning.

Attorneys for Goodson and Garant Evans, who was driving the SUV stopped on Route 80, were called into chambers and warned about airing the case out in the media, Evans' attorney, Joseph Afflitto, said afterward.

The case was then sent to the Grand Jury, which could take months to assemble.

Neither Goodson nor Evans, who are facing multiple weapon and drug charges, are eligible for a pre-trial intervention program, which makes the possibility of pleading out highly unlikely. Neither would likely admit to all the charges and pocket the 5-10 year sentence.

Goodson and Al Gallena, who represented him, would comment.

Goodson has been a steady fixture at voluntary workouts and mandatory mini camp since the arrest. Both the Jets and the NFL are monitoring the case but have reserved comment until the case runs its course in court.

The only problem is, that could take a while.
