New York Jets ownership at a glance

Majority owner: Woody Johnson, 67

Minority owners: The Jets declined to furnish a list of minority owners. It’s believed that members of Johnson’s immediate family own a small stake.

Source of wealth: Inheritance, heir to the Johnson & Johnson Company. Chairman and chief executive of the Johnson Company, Inc., a private investment firm.

Net worth: $3.5 billion (Forbes)

Residence: Bedminster, New Jersey, and New York City

Marital status: Remarried.

Family: Five children from two marriages.

Education: University of Arizona

When purchased team and for how much: 2000 for $635 million.

Franchise valuation: $1.8 billion (Forbes)

2014 revenue/rank: $333 million/sixth (Forbes)

Owns stadium (how much invested): Jets ownership co-owns MetLife Stadium with Giants ownership (the stadium cost $1.6 billion to build and was privately financed)

Ownership philosophy: From a broad standpoint, it’s to hire good people and provide them with the resources to be successful. Football-wise, his philosophy has shifted throughout the years. For most of Johnson’s tenure, especially from 2006 to 2012, the Jets were an aggressive, big-spending team known to chase the big names -- i.e., Brett Favre and Tim Tebow. Johnson has always believed in the importance of marquee value at the quarterback position. The approach changed the last two years, as the Jets’ payroll ranked among the lowest in the league. His credo was to build through the draft, supplementing with free agents, but with a new football regime, he’s poised to return to his aggressive ways.

Regular/postseason wins-losses during tenure: 117-123/6-6

GMs during tenure: Bill Parcells (2000), Terry Bradway (2001-2005), Mike Tannenbaum (2006-2012), John Idzik (2013-2014), Mike Maccagnan (2015-present).

Coaches during tenure: Al Groh (2000), Herm Edwards (2001-2005), Eric Mangini (2006-2008), Rex Ryan (2009-2014), Todd Bowles (2015-present).

Playoff appearances: 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010.

Super Bowl appearances/championships: None

NFL committees: Investment (chair), stadium, broadcasting, business ventures, legislative.
