JetNation
With the offensive line being a focal point for the New York Jets in the upcoming draft, JetNation continues to bring you prospect profiles with a heavy tilt toward the trenches on offense. With that in mind, here’s Washington offensive lineman Troy Fautanu. Height: 6040 Weight: 317 Hometown: Henderson, NV High School: Liberty (Measurements will be updated after the NFL Combine) Class/Age: Graduate, 23 (October 11, 2000) Recruit: ★★★★ #215 National, #12 OG, #1 NV Film Study: 83.5/100 (2nd Round Pick) Games Watched: Oregon (2023), Michigan State (2023) Balance: 8.5 Rarely on the ground, doesn’t get over his feet Pass Protection: 8.5 Looking for work, great stunt pickups, fast feet in kick slide Washington’s Troy Fautanu is a fun watch for many reasons. He plays with violence. Physical in the run… but he’s probably got the most in his pass protection tool box I’ve seen from a prospect in awhile. Here’s a sampling. Doesn’t even include all the jump sets or splash… pic.twitter.com/PprcUGLNn2 — Geoff Schwartz (@geoffschwartz) February 23, 2024 Run Blocking: 8.0 Good 2nd level climbs and blocking as a puller, needs more consistency Lateral Mobility/Athleticism: 8.0 Solid in space but doesn’t always find contact, good bender Point of Attack Power: 8.5 Good power at contact, stalemates defenders frequently Hands: 8.5 Good hand placement Anchor: 8.0 Solid anchor but was driven back occasionally Strength: 8.5 Good grip strength and leg drive, taking defenders out of the frame Size: 8.5 Big lower half, uses it to his advantage Versatility: 8.5 Guard with tackle flex at NFL level Notes: Allowed 2 sacks since 2022 (1,231 pass block snaps) 99 snaps at LG, 2 snaps at RT at Washington Summary: Although the Jets would not likely draft Troy Fautanu at 10th overall, he would be a good consideration in the middle of the round should New York trade back. His versatility to be able to play tackle is key, but he is likely to slot in at guard in the NFL. Fautanu has a good frame, specifically his lower half, and it’s evident when he plays with very good leverage. He is able to latch on to defenders and drive them out the play. He could use more consistency with his run blocking, but his pass protection reps are fun to watch. Outside of Jackson Powers-Johnson, Troy Fautanu is at the top of my list for interior offensive linemen. Fautanu was a last minute opt-out from the 2024 Senior Bowl, which tells you most of what you need to know about his draft stock. The post JetNation Prospect Profile: Troy Fautanu, iOL, Washington appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.Click here to read the full story...
