Think Twice Before Enjoying at Fenway Frank

If you read the New York Times this Sunday, you probably took note of their survey of the best ballpark food around the country. Or perhaps you saw Endless Simmer's follow-up piece about forgotten gems (we're agreed on Boog's BBQ in Baltimore). Neither piece mentioned much about Fenway Park and a story in today's Boston Globe makes it clear that there wasn't much reason to note anything positive about Boston's grub.

The food stands at Fenway racked up more than a dozen health code violations on Opening Day and didn't pass muster with inspectors until May 16 when 19 home games had been played.

In the initial visit, on April 1, inspectors found sausages thawing in stagnant water, employees handling raw burgers without changing their gloves, and rodent droppings underneath service counters, city records show.

April 1 was actually a week before the home opener but when they returned no changes had been made. The Sox weren't aware of the violations until the Globe called them for comment because Aramark, the company in charge of concessions, hadn't passed word along.

It's not all that surprising, frankly. At Yankee Stadium there used to be large signs right behind the register, in clear view of the patrons, reminding employees that spitting in the food was strictly forbidden. You don't post signs like that because there hasn't been a problem with employees thinking spitting in the food was A-Ok

That explains alot about those signs in the bathroom "Employees must wash hands".

:pooh:
