As per various reports on twitter, New York Jets right tackle Damien Woody will undergo knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the regular season.  He left yesterdays game when his knee locked up and did not return.  As per Rich Cimini from ESPNNY.com:

Woody will have arthroscopic knee surgery this week, a blow to an offensive line known for its durability. It’s possible that he could return for the playoffs, depending on his rehabilitation.

Woody, the senior member of the line, re-injured his right knee in the first quarter on Sunday’s 10-6 loss to the
Miami Dolphins
. He didn’t return to the game, saying afterward that his knee “locked up.” He underwent an MRI exam Monday morning, revealing the damage. The exact nature of the injury wasn’t immediately available.

Wayne Hunter is expected to start in his absence.  Rookie Vladimir Ducasse who was drafted in the 2nd round should be the backup and could step in if Hunter struggles.

Having to make this move the week you are playing the Pittsburgh Steelers is challenging.  They will need to overcome adversity once again if they are to meet their goal of leading the league in wins.  There is more information in our New York Jets message board.
