flgreen
Day 9: What to expect August, 9, 2011 Aug 9 8:50 AM ET By Rich Cimini Tuesday in Florham Park, N.J.: • The two-minute drill is going to be fun to watch. Mark Sanchez & Co. were stopped once again Monday by the starting defense, and things got a bit heated on the field. You could feel the intensity and competitiveness. Obviously, the offense has struggled in camp, what with all the receivers missing, but now the receiving corps is whole and the entire unit should start to close the gap. • It'll be interesting to see if rookie WR Scotty McKnight (seventh-round pick) can build on Monday's practice. Fellow rookie Jeremy Keremy (fifth-round) continues to steal the spotlight, but McKnight quietly has been showing improvement. He scored on a 35-yard pass from Mark Brunell, one of the biggest plays in camp. McKnight's best friend from home in So Cal happens to be Sanchez, who described him this way: "He knows he’s not the fastest guy. He knows he has really good hands and he has to be really smart, so he tried to pick up the system as soon as possible. He’s had a good resource in me over the offseason, but he’s done a good job. He’s going to have to play really well on special teams and he’s going to have to block his butt off. That’s how he’s going to try to make the team." • Former Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery, cut last week, is shopping for a new team. He arrived Monday in Baltimore for a visit with the Ravens, and he's also huddled with the Steelers. He should be getting close to a decision. They're both terrific organizations, but Cotchery probably would have more playing-time opportunities in Baltimore. Basically, he'd replace Derrick Mason, who came to the Jets. Funny story: When former Raven Bart Scott signed with the Jets in 2009 and met Cotchery for the first time, he told him he reminded him of Mason.
