Jets' Nick Folk shows he deserves job and Rex Ryan has seen enough of Stephen Hill

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED

1. NICK FOLK DESERVED THE KICKING COMPETITION WIN

One week after the Jets anointed him their starter — cutting Josh Brown following Sunday’s loss to Carolina — Folk busted a career-high 58-yard field goal to end the first half, beating his previous high by 2 yards. Folk has been special team coordinator Mike Westhoff’s go-to guy for the past three seasons now and seems to be growing stronger under the special teams guru. The same may not be said for Folk’s special teams counterpart, punter T.J. Conley though. Spencer Lanning, a punter the team was awarded off waivers earlier in the week, had all three punts in the first half, carrying a 36-yard average.

2. THE FULLBACK SITUATION IS STILL IN FLUX

Rookie Terrance Ganaway started the game and John Conner wasn’t seen until the second drive of the second half. Ryan has been trying out a handful of different options at fullback all summer, including placing linebacker Nick Bellore during training camp. Conner only came in after he said Joe McKnight, last night’s starter at running back, got hurt. Conner didn’t read into being one of the few starters playing so late in the game in regards to his roster spot.

3. REX RYAN HAD SEEN ENOUGH FROM ROOKIE STEPHEN HILL

First-round pick Quinton Coples was on the field Thursday night, but second-round pick Stephen Hill was on the sidelines. Ryan was unsure if Hill was going to play during the week, saying the rookie had enough reps during the preseason. Instead, Jordan White and Patrick Turner got the start at wide receiver with Eron Riley and Royce Pollard also seeing some reps.

One more thing...

The Jets had just eight yards of total offense in the second half, after 164 in the first half.
