Ellis Lankster

The New York Jets announced on Tuesday that they have released CB Ellis Lankster and signed Bradon Smith to the practice squad.

Lankster was released for the second time this month. The Jets now have an open roster spot on their 53 man roster, stay tuned they will fill that vacancy very soon.

Dom Cosentino provides a little background info on Smith.

Smith had a tryout with the Jets on Tuesday, according to Aaron Wilson of the
Baltimore Sun
. A converted receiver who reportedly can run the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds, Smith initially joined the NFL with the Panthers in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Smith has since bounced around with the Seahawks, Packers, and Bills. Per Wilson, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had encouraged Smith to switch to corner. He is said to play well in press coverage. Carroll had recruited Smith as a corner when Carroll was coaching at USC.

According to Wilson, Smith had broken his fibula during training camp but several teams had since inquired about him.
