Here’s why Peyton Manning isn’t missing the Colts’ season opener

By Chris Chase

Though there have been some signs that Peyton Manning(notes) may not be ready for the start of the NFL season, there are literally dozens of more reasons why it's safe to assume he'll be on the field when the Indianapolis Colts open 2011 against the Houston Texans. Here are 18 more.

Below are Peyton's career stats against the aforementioned Texans. He's played the team twice a year since 2002 and has had a fair amount of success:

If Peyton were to show up at Reliant Stadium wearing one of those neck braces favored by clients of ambulance chasers, he'd still throw for 200 yards and two touchdowns.

Unless he's physically incapable of walking, expect Mr. Manning to be donning the No. 18 jersey for the Colts in 20 days.

Well, the Texans haven't exactly been a force in the NFL since they were brought in. It's not surprising that one of the best teams in the past 6 years owns them. I think Peyton's injury >>>>>>>>>>> his ability to beat the Texans. Curtis Painter sucks, yes, but keeping Peyton healthy and getting him to 100% HAS to be the Colts main priority.

How did that work out for him opening day last year? Unless Peyton can suit up and play nose tackle, the Texans are going to beat them again.

Selective amnesia? The Colts still beat them handily in meeting number two and Houston failed to make the playoffs. Manning OWNS the Texans.

I'm just saying, they still won't be able to stop Arian Foster. The reason they always lose in the playoffs is because they like to load up on under-sized, fast linebackers and ends and they get thrased on the ground. That and Peyton is one of the biggest choke artists in NFL history.

Houston takes that division this year, finally. They've never had a corner as good as Jonathan Joseph or a safety as good as Daniel Manning.

And remember last time Manning missed all of training camp in '08? The Colts started 3-4 and he had a rough stretch to start the year. This first chink in Peyton's armor is going to be the begining of the Colts demise. The Texans and Jags are both younger and have brighter futures.
