Below are some facts on how Geno compares to some current franchise QB's over the course of their first 23 games as a starter:

  • Geno:  9-14 record; 56.3% completion, 26 total TD's (passing+running), 34 total TO's (Int's and fumbles)
  • Drew Brees:  9-14 record; 60% completion, 25 total TD's, 27 total TO's
  • Eli Manning:  11-12 record; 51.2% completion, 29 total TD's, 27 total TO's
  • Andrew Luck:  15-8 record; 55.6% completion, 37 total TD's, 29 total TO's
  • Sanchez:  14-9 record, 53.8% completion, 26 total TD's, 28 total TO's

Now look at what they did they're 3rd year as a starter:

  • Brees:  11-4 record, 65.5% completion, 29 total TD's, 9 total TO's
  • Eli:  8-8 record; 57.7% completion, 24 TD's, 20 TO's
  • Luck (thru 6 games so far):  4-2; 66.2%, 19 TD's, 8 TO's.
  • Sanchez year 3:  8-8 record, 56.7% completion, 32 TD's, 26 TO's.

There's a story behind each of these players and their teams.  Brees was drafted in the 2nd round (32nd overall) with Geno being drafted 39th overall.

The others were top-5 picks overall.

We are extremely familiar with the Jets and how barren the offensive talent is on this team.  Even Sanchez's teams had an offensive identity (great running game, great OLine).

If you take a look at Geno you'll see that he's pacing just like these other guys.  Each of them took a great leap in year three.

Geno passes the eye test (he can throw the ball, he can run the ball) and he's absolutely in the midst of his career growing pains.  Even Peyton Manning accounted for 37 total TO's his first 23 games.

This is just to keep everything in perspective.  We still may have something with Geno.

However, what's extremely alarming is the lack of growth our coaching staff displays.  That's where our problem lies and that's where we're seeing the trend be extremely poor.
