It was just too much to overcome

The Jets started the season great but then then stumbled to a 5-5 record.  Many fans believed that Fitzpatrick sucked, the defense sucked and the coaching staff had no clue what to do etc etc.  From that point on we needed the NY Jets and their backup QB journeyman, Fitzpatrick, to win out. We needed them to win 6 straight games and then if you want to get crazy, win 3 more in a row to make it to the Super Bowl.

The Jets gave us 6 weeks of "playoff football".  Obviously its a crushing defeat especially when its to Rex and because we finally had control of our destiny.  But think about it.  We won 5 out of 6 which is very good for a non elite team but it took 10 wins in a row from the Chiefs and then the Steelers winning 6 out of 7 to keep us out of the playoffs. Big Ben's quick healing time didn't help us one bit.

We can cry about choking and looking flat yesterday but as hot as the Jets were, we are not an elite team that is expected to win every week.  We showed guts in beating a depleted Dallas, NYG  and New England team but nothing comes easy for us.  They fought very hard these past 6 games and I don't take anything away from them just because we lost yesterday.  It's disappointing that we didn't make it but football is a crazy sport where things never really go as expected. You don't think NE was trying to win yesterday?  Green Bay?  Arizona??  Its just the way it is and unfortunately we came up short.

Its weird that many of us thought we were good enough to possibly beat Houston, Cincy, Denver, KC and even perhaps NE in the playoffs but we weren't so sure about a nothing to lose Buffalo squad with Rex trying to get revenge.

We almost witnessed one of the greatest plays in Jets history yesterday on that Thompkins play at the end.  We will never know but a touchdown right there could have very well have propelled us on a Super Bowl run but it was jarred out by the safety and actually was a fitting ending to our season which was so dam close to the playoffs.
