Mike and Mike and Chad

April 25

Chad Pennington graced the ESPN airwaves this morning and if anybody sat breathlessly by the radio waiting for the Jets quarterback to say anything particularly newsworthy, it was an exercise in futility.

Then again, Pennington prefers to keep his comments vanilla. With the microphones off and the notepads put away, he

Could Jets Take the Draft's Biggest Sleeper?

Posted Apr 25th 2007 5:50AM by Michael David Smith

As the Jets prepare for draft weekend, one thing is very clear: They need some players who will fit into the 3-4 defense. Last year Eric Mangini was running his defense with Herm Edwards' players, and as a result the Jets were a mess against the run.

So which available players could fit into Mangini's defense? Here's a name you probably haven't heard: Walter Thomas. A 6-foot-5, 370-pound defensive tackle, Thomas played briefly at Oklahoma State, then flunked out, then played two games at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Miss. before he was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and never played again.

With that background, you might think no team would consider Thomas, but he's such an incredible athlete that Gil Brandt of NFL.com says, "A lot of people are talking about him." Thomas has visited the Jets, Browns and Dolphins. He seems like he'd be best suited as a 3-4 nose tackle, and although he won't go on the first day of the draft, he's one of the most intriguing prospects on the second day.

Boomer Esiason Will Get Tryout as Don Imus Replacement

Former Bengals, Jets and Cardinals quarterback Boomer Esiason has had an up-and-down career as a broadcaster. He was generally considered a flop during his time as the TV analyst alongside Al Michaels on Monday Night Football, but he's been reviewed much more favorably as the MNF radio analyst alongside Marv Alberts.

Now Esiason could get a much more prominent radio assignment than MNF. The New York Daily News is reporting that Esiason will get a one-week tryout as the replacement for Don Imus on CBS Radio. Esiason wouldn't get the job on a solo basis, though: He'll be partnered, at least at first, with Chris Russo of Mike and the Mad Dog.

I like Esiason well enough, but morning talk seems like the wrong place for him. Esiason is at his best when he's reacting to game action, and I'm skeptical that he'd be able to keep things interesting for four hours on a morning when not much is going on. Still, as Sports by Brooks notes, Esiason is a New Yorker who already works for CBS Radio. He's got a chance.

I liked boomer as an analyst. I thought he did a much better job than most of the retards.

Jets Need To Find Players Who Fit the 3-4 Scheme

Football

By MICHAEL DAVID SMITH

April 25, 2007

If Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum has demonstrated anything in his brief tenure on the job, it's that when NFL draft time rolls around, he doesn't hesitate to trade.

Last year Tannenbaum acquired an extra first-round draft pick by trading defensive end John Abraham and made three more trades on the first day of the draft. This year he's already moved back in the second round in a trade for running back Thomas Jones, and he previously traded the Jets' fourth-round pick for running back Kevan Barlow.

So as the Jets prepare for this weekend's draft, Tannenbaum will no doubt be working the phones. But the good news for the Jets is that they approach the draft with fewer holes to fill than they had in 2006. Last year the Jets needed to transform their roster to improve upon the previous season's 4

Maybe if we're lucky Boomer will beat the crap out of Russo when he blasts the Jets for whatever wrong they have committed against humanity :)
