They never offered Cain/Lincecum for Matsui. That much is obvious. If that offer was on the table and Cashman never pulled the trigger, he just made himself the worst GM in all of sports. If you recall, at the beginning of the season, the Yankees really had an surplus of hitters and Matsui is more or less a highly paid DH. You can come up with all the links you want, no one honestly believe Lincecum/Cain was offered for Matsui.
