GodWearsAGrayHoodie
NFL to try out new game clock system on Monday night Posted by Mike Florio on August 16, 2010 4:49 PM ET When the Giants and Jets get together on Monday night for the first non-game game at Meadowlands Stadium, the officials will be trying out a new system for controlling the non-game game clock. Four officials will be able to start and stop the clock from the field, according to Sean Leahy of USA Today (via SportsBusiness Daily). They'll be carrying phone-sized devices with the appropriate "on" and "off" buttons. "If we have the potential to time our games with more precision, then we will pursue all avenues, including experimenting with alternate methods to accomplish that goal," NFL vice president of officiating Carl Johnson said. We think it's a good idea -- but we also still think that the league should be experimenting with the procedure for throwing a flag after the play clock has gone to zero.
