New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is uncertain if the right (throwing) shoulder that bothered him late in the season will require surgery.

"I’ll have it looked at, but it’s gotten better every week," Sanchez told The Star Ledger after the Jets' 24-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. "It’s got me confident that hopefully nothing will have to happen."

Sanchez was injured in the Jets' first meeting with the Steelers, a 22-17 win at Pittsburgh on Dec. 19, but played through it -- as he did the following week against the Chicago Bears.

Sanchez started the regular-season finale against the Buffalo Bills but played only a series before starting all three playoff games for the Jets.

The second-year quarterback threw for 3,291 yards with 17 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 75.3 quarterback rating in 16 games this season. Sanchez notched a 95.5 rating in this year's postseason, winning his third and fourth career road playoff games against the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots before falling to the Steelers. In the process, Sanchez tied an NFL record for road victories by a quarterback with four, alongside Len Dawson, Roger Staubach, Jake Delhomme and Joe Flacco.
