Forget about the loss

I am concerned with where this season is headed. To me, this season has 7-9, 8-8 written all over it. Two hurt QB's, and RB on a bum knee, an OLINE that cant pass protect. Things just aren't looking bright in Jetsville.

On to the game.

Offensively: I am begginning to lose my patience with Dinger. This offense looks eerily (spelling?) like hacketts. Other than that screen pass to baker (which should have been called back on a block in the back on us) Dinger has yet to show any imagination. I know Chad is hurt, but how many times are you going to run on first down? I saw the Jets in an I-formation 2 wide receiver set way too much for my liking. Where is the 4 and 5 wide receiver sets? Just nothing.... And the playcalling after barrett's fumble was a complete joke. Thats wherey ou put the game away. Running two times in a row? If Chad couldnt throw then he should not have been in there. Its That simple... How about running some screens or SOMETHING! Just same ol vanilla BS.

If we got to go with A. Jones at LT the rest of the way we are in big time trouble. He looked outmatched out there today. But Fabini has been horrible too, so that position is a problem.

Did Doug Jolley dress today? Excellent trade.

At least we finally increased Blaylock's workload... by 2 carries. Good job Hermie.

On to the defense:

Just a terrible job on 3rd downs. That, and letting the Jags march up field and get a FG after the Reed TD was terrible. It just totally deflated the momentum... Other than that I thought they did OK considering they were on the field the whole game. Whenever you keep a RB under 100 yards when he gets 38 carries is just a tremendous job... But big time defenses simply odnt give up the plays we did today. Our D is good, but not in the upper echelon yet.

When does Shaun Ellis plan on getting a pass rush this season?

Special teams:

I dont know why Miller was returning punts when he's been shaky all TC and just fumbled a ball earlier in the game. This is not even in hindsight, I did not want him out there.

Next week is huge game, the ravens are mad and desperate. We better come ready to respond.

It doesn't look good at all. Here's my best case scenario:

Jets split the next two; that puts them at 2-3 with 5 divisional games left; the Jets go 3-2 in those games, putting them at 5-5 with games at Atlanta, Carolina and Denver, and three at home against the Saints, Chargers and Raiders.

They will finish 8-8.

You don't want to see my worst case scenario.

Hey, look on the bright side-

We wipe the slate clean, spot Herman Edwards a five year extension, draft a running back and a QB in the next two drafts, retool the 0-line and the secondary, and who knows? By 2009 we can get a 6th seed playoff berth.
