Barnes was let go make room for safety Ronald Martin earlier this week. The team also announced the signing of project offensive lineman Lawrence Okoye, a former British Olympic Discus thrower and rugby player. The Jets listed Okoye as an offensive lineman despite having entered the league as a defensive lineman having never played a down of football in his life. For some Jets fans, the move is bound to bring back memories of Hayden Smith, a former rugby player who was signed by former GM Mike Tannenbaum as his own project.
