Jets played uphill

Huge letdown but the 1st quarter was a microcosm of the NY Jets 2015 season. 

In a must win game Jets offense again comes out flat as a pancake. Three possessions without a 1st down & all of 17 yards. In two of those possessions we went backwards, inside our own 15 yard line ending in 2 third & 15s. The 1st quarter alone we finished with 5 drops, absolutely no running game or screen game (We all knew the Powell injury was huge), and there isn't one Jet fan on this site that was shocked when Quigley shanked that punt & set up the Bills for their 1st TD.

We all knew hearing of the weather it was imperative to have a balanced attack & be able to stay with the running game. Unable to establish any type of running game & not having one RB capable of catching the ball out of the backfield our Jets were playing right into the hands (or mind) of our ex-coach, who contrary to popular belief here is still capable of calling a good defensive game plan. 

In our last 5 wins the Jets were winning throwing the ball. This was not weather to rely on only the passing game & we all knew that coming in with Fitzy. How many times has one of you typed (Fitz can't carry the team on his back). 

But, even with everything not going our way, there we were in FG range to take the lead & Fitz got greedy going to the Decker well just once too often. Others have said this & I totally agree, Chan really needed to go to the running game & play it safe. I was thinking we just need to get a lead in that game to change the mentality that the Bills had been playing with. We were CHASING & CHASING that whole game & the Bills just kept playing loosy goosey. You take the lead & now you need just one big play to close it out.

So in the end just like in every loss this season the same things bit us in the azz. Drops right out of the gate putting us in horrific field position, no running game & injuries to our RBs (Ivory & Powell) with no backup plan (Ridley?really?). Another shanked punt leading to a TD, another over aggressive call leading to a pick & a missed FG opportunity for their 1st lead (1st game Bowles went 4th & 2 down 5 with 3 minutes & 3 time outs), Revis with no help & Watkins eating his lunch (remember Hopkins Todd?), and another game with ZERO pass rush allowing a mediocre QB to get the ball to his only playmaker (Watkins, 75% of their yards) OUCH! 

When you step back, you realize we didn't deserve to win, end of story, like so many other Jet season enders. Not one player is to blame, this was again a team loss, almost everyone we needed to come up big failed including the coaches. Sucks!
