Saleh’s Sloppy Jets Drop 10-9 Decision to Rookie Bo Nix

Give Robert Saleh all the talent in the world and he’ll still find ways to lose a home game on long rest to a rookie quarterback.

The Jets were flagged for fifteen penalties (12 accepted) for 91 yards and had a blown coverage on defense to allow the Broncos to score the only touchdown of the day in a 10-9 loss at home.

Prior to this contest, Aaron Rodgers owned a career record of 13-0 when playing at home with nine days to prepare.  That record is now 13-1.

One of the most penalized teams in the NFL last season, nothing has changed under Saleh as the Jets are among the worst offenders again in 2024.  Most troubling is how often the penalties are of the pre-snap variety.  Just a complete lack of discipline for Gang Green.

It didn’t help matters that Rodgers and his receivers couldn’t seem to get on the same page, resulting in several incomplete passes on which Rodgers was clearly throwing to one spot while his receivers ran to another.

Garrett Wilson, who entered the season why sky high expectations, was held to just 41 yards on four catches while running back Breece Hall was completely locked down, averaging 0.4 yards per rush as he went for four yards on 10 carries.

Most puzzling about the Jets approach on offense was their lack of willingness to utilize running back Braelon Allen in short-yardage situations.  The 235 pound rookie was brought in to presumably be a battering ram on the goal line and other short-yardage situations.  Yet when the Jets had 1st and goal at the 1-yard line, the Jets ran Breece Hall into the pile to get stuffed and settled for a field goal.

GM Joe Douglas essentially bought the Jets filet mignon and has to sit and watch while Robert Saleh and Nate Hackett boil it in water for twelve hours.  The talent for this team to win is there.  The coaching?  Not so much.

The loss drops the Jets to 2-2 before they head to London to take on the streaking Minnesota Vikings and Sam Darnold.
