My defending CAA champion UNCW Seahawks will be taking part in the NCAA's Preseason NIT Tournament next season, which starts on November 13th and whose "Final 4" ends up in Madison Square Garden. Here are the 16 participants. Many of you will be interested to see this grouping, seeing as 9 of them were in the NCAA Tournament last year:

Eastern Region (Charlotte):

UNC-Chapel Hill vs. Sacred Heart

Winthrop vs. Iona

Southern Region (Nashville):

Tennessee vs. Fordham

UNCW vs. Belmont

Western Region (Spokane)

Gonzaga vs. Rice

Baylor vs. Colorado St.

Midwest Region (Indianapolis):

Indiana vs. Lafayette

Notre Dame vs. Butler

The winners in each region will meet in Madison Square Garden. Indiana, despite playing home games, appears to have the toughest road, and Gonzaga (surprise, surprise) has the EASIEST road. I know there are some UNC fan(s) (Jetheelz) and Gonzaga fan(s) (JetsfaninSec124) here, so there could be some potential trash talking in this year's tournament.

Predictions? Basketball's opening tournament ends up with the following playing in MSG:

UNC, UNCW, Gonzaga, Indiana.

Former Tennessee assistant Chuck Benson, who was let go by current Tennessee Head Coach Bruce Pearl when he arrived, gets his revenge, this time as UNCW's top assistant. UNC, with home court adavantage on its side, takes out Winthrop in a close one. Gonzaga, even without Morrison, beats Colorado St, and Indiana defeats the Irish in their regional final.

In Madison Square Garden, UNCW shocks the world by beating Tyler Hansbrough's Tarheels in the same way that fellow CAA rival George Mason did last season. T.J. Carter has a monster game for the Seahawks, with help from inside play by Todd Hendley and Vlad Kuljanin, as well as stingy defense from guard Temi Soyebo.

Gonzaga gets beat by Kelvin Sampson's new Indiana squad behind the play of Marco Killingsworth. Mark Few wishes he had taught his players how to play D when they choke away another 2nd half lead.

In the Title game, UNCW smokes Indiana so badly that former-Seahawk head coach Brad Brownell is GLAD he never got offered to coach the Hoosiers.
