Sperm Edwards
They drafted three - THREE - RB's including Felix Jones in the first round. Barber is a RFA who I think is unsigned so far. He'll command a $50-60M contract without breaking a sweat (if he survives the year without serious injury). Is Dallas planning on franchising & trading him in 2009? They may not have the cap space to give him mega-bucks after the contracts they have already signed players to over the last 2-3 seasons: $44M to Flozell Adams $67M to Tony Romo $19M to Zach Thomas $50M to Leonard Davis $30M to Andre Gurode $20M to Jay Ratliff $30M to Roy Williams $29M to Jason Witten $14M to Patrick Crayton Ken Hamlin was franchised this year & they're supposedly working on a long-term deal with him. Chris Canty is also a RFA right now like Barber. With the cap being so high, they could survive all of those contracts above. But after the 2008 season is over: Hamlin is a UFA (if they don't reach a long-term deal with him this yr) Barber is a UFA. T.O. is a UFA. Chris Canty is a UFA. Mark Colombo is a UFA. DeMarcus Ware will need a new deal (enters the last year of his rookie contract). Marcus Spears will need a new deal (enters the last year of his rookie contract). Terence Newman will be entering the last year of his rookie contract. Anthony Henry will be entering the last year of his contract. They took Mike Jenkins in round 1, so that presumably takes care of one CB position. But can they really afford to give that kind of money to a RB, even one of Barber's tackle-breaking talents?
