One day after Arena Football League owners voted not to suspend the 2009 season "at this time," the new owners of the Dragons strongly endorsed playing the season.

Some owners publicly have suggested a one-year hiatus while the league formulates a new economic model, but Dragons managing partner Steven Silva said, "We are on the side of playing football."

The owners plan to meet again next Friday. "All the owners want to see the league made stronger and move forward," said team president Shanna Silva, Steven's wife. "There may be differing ideas on how."

An investment group headed by Steven Silva bought the team from Islanders owner Charles Wang in July. Said Shanna Silva: "I don't think we regret for one second our purchase of the team."

A LETTER TO FANS

A letter from COO Tim Kelly to Dragons Fans

Dragons Fans,

The outpouring of support and concern from fans and friends of the organization over the past several days as rumors have surfaced about the future of the 2009 AFL season has been overwhelming. Now more than ever, the Dragons staff, players, coaches and owners are so appreciative of the amazing fans we have here in New York.

Let this be clear, we fully expect to play in 2009. Dragons Managing Partner Steven Silva and President Shanna Silva have been instrumental in driving the charge to play this season. The AFL is a strong league. This year will be the 23rd year of the AFL
