A 24-year-old Salt Lake City man faces charges in 3rd District Court in connection with firing a gun at a locked refrigerator case to steal beer over the weekend.

Police say the man walked into a 7-Eleven at 1353 W. Indiana Avenue (830 South) just before 6 a.m. on Sunday and walked back to the cooler.

When the suspect noticed the cooler was locked he pointed a handgun at the glass front and fired two shots, according to charging documents. He took a 30-pack of Busch beer and left the store running, court documents state.

Police located the suspect driving a black SUV near Glendale Plaza. They made a traffic stop, found the gun and the beer in the car and arrested the man, charging documents state.

The man had spilled beer on his clothing because he shot holes into the beer packaging, which caused several leaks, according to court documents.

The man was charged Tuesday with second-degree felony theft, third-degree felony discharge of a firearm, class A misdemeanor criminal mischief, carrying a concealed dangerous weapon, a class A misdemeanor; and interference with an arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor.

He is being held in the Salt Lake County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Blue laws dont work people. Its time to get rid of them when it drives a man to shoot a cooler with a shotgun at 6am to steal a 30 pack of Busch Beer.

Of course the man couldnt have been too smart if he grabbed a case with holes in it. Dumbass. Or since he grabbed Busch Beer instead of any other brand.
