That is, until he goes out for his next start and has to leave due to elbow soreness. Was Leyland even in the dugout, or did he go down to the clubhouse for a smoke when Jackson was left in the game after walking the leadoff hitter in the 8th with a 2-run lead and a pitch count around 115?

What counted is Leyland was back from his cigarette break by pitch 136

Edwin Jackson is the best pitcher in the league. For the sole fact he's not a va gina. Real men go out and win or lose their own games.

:bow.

If you want get technical, Jackson blew the lead and was bailed out by his offense scoring in the bottom of the inning, salvaging his win.

There's a difference between pulling a pitcher when he hits some magical number of pitches when he's still dominating and removing a guy who has become fatigued and is no longer the best option to get outs (even though the Tigers pen sucks).

Regardless of whether or not he blew the game is not my point. My point is too many so called "Aces" in the game today are pulled after 100-110 pitches. If you're a real ace you finish your own damn game. By the time the 8th inning started the man was already around 107-110 pitches (couldn't remember), yet he still came back out.

Second, look at his whole body of work where he pitched for 3 runs in 8 innings. It can't be helped that his offense couldn't score enough runs

He was either losing or winning that last game by himself, and by coming back out to finish showed a lot of cojones. Santana wouldn't have been back out there, Greinke wouldn't have been back out there, CC maybe. Aces should finish their own games.
