Cool event. I hope its super successful.

I have a niece who was paralyzed in a car accident when she was 18 coming home from a High School Graduation party, driver walked away with bumps and bruises. She was originally considered to be a C-7 quadriplegic. With hard work, determination and the right attitude, she's now gained movement in her shoulders and is able to bend almost all the way down the waist. She's still consider a quadri, but has the movement of a para and is able to use her arms to wheel her chair on her own. Huge accomplishment and a monster stride to gaining the independence that people with these injuries seek to obtain.

You cant tell my niece she will never walk again. Which is another big step from when the injury originally took place and she had the thoughts of rather being dead. She's an inspiration. I wear a daily bracelet that says, "Help Amanda Walk", to remind me of how fortunate we are and the simple things we take for granted. Its amazing what can happen in the face of tragedy. My family started a rehabilitation center for folks with these injuries in Orlando, FL. The only Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Center in all of Central Florida. Unfortunately, its thriving. Which just shows the number of people affected by spinal cord injuries. The center provides a place for members to work as often as they'd like to make steps toward living and independent life...and eventually, walk again. Hopefully, there will be advances in Stem Cell Research during her life time, which unfortunately, this country doesnt not perform enough of...its sad how little money is dedicated to people with these injuries. I'll give Obama credit, which I dont do much of, he did lift the ban we had for this type of research, so hopefully we will see some focus from our scientist and doctors.

There are stories of people walking again. Dennis Byrd is an example we all know so well. With hard work and the right attitude, its possible. I truly believe that and I wish the best to Eric LeGrand. Being sensitive to the situation, I've followed the story and I've heard he's gained some feeling in areas and making big strides. Its great to hear.
