  1. This is the best post I have read in 2023. I really don't get some of you who just KNOW some one cannot improve. Rookie year Zach was no where near as bad as year two Zach, especially when he came back from injury his first year. That does not mean he didn't regress badly in his second season. Hence why he would be probably 3rd string at this point so he can work on his weaknesses without the pressure of having to perform right now. The guy went second for a reason and the Jets were not the only team prepared to draft him top 5 or at least top 10. Stop acting like the guy didn't show the potential in college to make him a top pick. As was stated, had he started out with an experienced OC and a decent Vet to compete against, there is no way to can tell me he would be this bad right now. The Jets actually owe it to the fan base to FIND OUT for SURE if this kid was a mistake or if he can be salvaged. Why on earth are so many people against this? Everyone thought Daniel Jones was bust and at best, a back up quarterback and now, with a few years experience and a good OC and offensively minded HC he looks like a different player. You don't get rid of top drafted players on rookie contracts unless they are cancer and bad influence on the team and you have some one else who dramatically outplays them. Drafting is not an exact science, and coaching makes a huge difference on how a player will fare on a given team. It is so easy to say "Mahomes would have been good on any team" and chances are he would eventually be good, but is also easy to see he would have struggled BIG TIME had he been drafted by the Jets and thrust into the starting job. I am not comparing Zach Wilson to Mahomes, I am just saying this team has not been very good at developing rookies but especially quarterbacks. This has GOT to change. At this point the have really nothing to lose by keeping Zach on the roster. Now if they get lucky and can draft a quarterback in the middle rounds that drops, than let them compete and the best man wins. But don't you just cut him out of some stupid impulsive or personal animus toward the guy.
  2. Yeah being a NY team it really doesn't matter if they are in New Jer.... wait what? At some point I hope they find a way back to NY where they belong. In fact it may be the fact that they are in NJ is the reason they not been back to a Super Bowl since they left.... I know, that is ridiculous.... or is it?? (eye brows raised....)
  3. No the bigger blunder was not bringing an experienced OC and decent vet quarterback to start (or at least offer real competition in camp) while Zach sat and watched from the bench until at least half way through the season. That is how you set up your young quarterback to succeed rather than fail.
  4. Sorry but you are just wrong. The hit on Mahomes was a SHOVE 3 FEET out of BOUNDS. That is a penalty 10 times out of 10.... especially if it happens to a QUARTERBACK. Again, the hit on Wilson was definitely a penalty that should have been called. There is no argument on that. That was truly a BLOWN CALL no doubt about it, however, the hit on Mahomes was a obvious penalty and should have been called (and it was). Hit on Mahomes:
  5. Both were penalties but only one was called which totally sucked. However please don't act like that was not a penalty against Mahomes just because a penalty wasn't called against Wilson. Even Stevie Wonder can see Ossai shoved him 2 or 3 feet out of bounds. That is a penalty; PERIOD.
  6. I don't get the KC hate. They are fun to watch, have the best young quarterback in the game and perhaps the most entertaining to watch as well. Btw that Pacheco is a BEAST! Also shows how a great Quarterback can lift up his wide receivers. Andy Reid is probably the best coach in football right now. Please don't compare them to the Pats who were the biggest cheaters in the history of team sports and who had virtually every big call go their way for over a decade.
  7. Funny how he had no issues with Gase or in College. What I see is a guy who was walking on eggshells, afraid to a make a mistake because is OC was an idiot and tried to ruin his career. Many young players will make a mistake, run a wrong route or drop a pass but I don't know many top rated players who get treated the way MLF treated Mims, especially last season. If I didn't know any better I would have thought he was an undrafted free agent. No one is saying he is blameless; but I look at all the factors (like trying to force him to learn every single route practically overnight). The last thing you want a player to do, especially a young player, is to be thinking or in some cases, over thinking on the field. This year it is on Mims, assuming he gets the opportunity, it is make or break for him.
  8. Yeah I think he was open plenty last season and the narrative that he is penalty prone is false. All players have penalties but for some reason Mims is the only always ever singled out for them.
  9. So you are writing off his rookie season under Gase? He did have a few "seriously good flashes" that season. It is almost like folks think his career started under Saleh and MLF.
  10. And I hope a new OC comes in and gives him a clean slate. If he does, I think Mims will produce. Time will tell.
  11. Well I will see what he can do with a real OC and Quarterback throwing him the ball. You can ignore used sparingly if you want but the fact remains he was rarely targeted. Funny how he seemed to catch passes better when Gase was the HC. All of a sudden he forget how to catch under MLF? Sorry I don't buy it. Sometimes you have to use your eyes and stop relying on analytics.
  12. You can't look at it like that. How many of those "targets" were on target?? He was a rarely used part of the offense and in watching the actual games, some of those were uncatchable. I don't put much stock into statistics like that when you are used sparingly in an offense. Lets see what his numbers look like when he is actually included into the offensive game plan.
  13. So you know for a fact that Zach would not have improved enough to justify his draft position under Pederson? I don't know, Zachs last 6 games of the previous year were encouraging in many ways. I find it hard to believe if he had Pederson instead of Lafleur, he would not have shown some significant improvement. For one thing Pederson would have had him doing more designed running plays as well as roll out of the pocket plays, more motion etc. Things that would play to what Zach did well. Obviously it is all speculation at this point. I think Zach may eventually get it together with the right coaching (mostly not here in NY and if his confidence has not be completely destroyed). I know everyone says the Jets blew it with Zach but they were not the only team that would have taken him at number 2. The fact is he probably would have been better if he sat half a year as a rookie and had a real proven OC but that didn't happen, unfortunately.
