FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Nick Mangold wasn’t on the injury report despite a heavily wrapped right hand last week, but Wednesday the Jets center stood back during positional drills as Caleb Schlauderaff took the reps at center.

And Mangold wasn’t the only high-impact Jet watching his squad. CB Antonio Cromartie, who left the Baltimore game in the fourth quarter with a hip injury, watched practice with his helmet off during the portion open to the media.

Cromartie and Mangold play very different roles for the Jets, but if they missed a game, it would be difficult to replace them and maintain a cohesive unit.

The Jets held practice on the indoor turf field on Wednesday as rain and wind blew outside. They are preparing to face Miami at 1 p.m. at MetLife Stadium.

Campbell returns: With LB Troy Davis on injured reserve, the Jets added TE Chris Pantale to the regular roster. To fill the practice squad spot, WR Michael Campbell was back during practice, working out on the sideline. The Jets now have four active tight ends.

Kerley back: WR Jeremy Kerley, who injured his elbow three weeks ago, was back at practice without the red jersey he wore last week. Kerley has been missed during the past two games, as quarterback Geno Smith has struggled to find options as plays progressed.

Ivory on the side: It was difficult to tell how much the ankle injury from Sunday’s game hampered running back Chris Ivory. He was on the field and in uniform, and moved from the sideline with trainers back to his position group.

Mac is back: Linebacker Garrett McIntyre, who missed two games with a knee injury, appeared to be back with his group today.

Injury concern for Nick Mangold grows

The Jets returned to the practice field Wednesday and there was one troubling development.

Center Nick Mangold was a spectator during the 30-minute window the media is permitted to watch. Backup Caleb Schauderaff took all the first-team reps during the walkthrough and in positional drills. Mangold has been wearing a wrap on his right wrist for the past two weeks, but insists it is just regular maintenance. Clearly, it is more than that.

The Jets will provide their injury report later Wednesday and we’ll know how much Mangold was able to do.

In other injury news, it appears CB Antonio Cromartie (hip) was going to sit out. He did not have pads or a helmet on and was watching from behind the defense while the media was at practice. Darrin Walls was playing with the first team in his place.

RB Chris Ivory (ankle) appeared to be moving well. WR Jeremy Kerley (elbow) and LB Garrett McIntyre (knee), who have each missed the past two games, were going through positional drills and appeared to be on their way to returning.
