It gave them a 17-0 lead. The Situation: Defensive star of the game Jaiquawn Jarrett recovered a Steelers fumble at the Pittsburgh 20-yard line in the first quarter, with the Jets already leading 10-0. Rex Ryan always talks about complementary football, defense helping offense, offense helping defense. This was a good example of that. What Happened: Thanks to an 18-yard scramble by Vick, the Jets overcame two negative plays (a 1-yard sack and a 3-yard loss by Chris Ivory) to convert on third-and-goal from the 5. Using their "11" personnel (one running back, one tight end and three wide receivers), Vick found Amaro in the back of the end zone. Actually, Vick stared down the 6-foot-5 rookie, but he still was able to find a window. Amaro made a nice catch, managing to get his second foot inbounds as he fell backward. It was Vick's second scoring pass of the day. The Impact: It's hard to believe, but this marked only the second time in the last 14 years the Jets had a plus-17 differential in the first quarter, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The last time was Week 10 in 2008. Obviously, Amaro's touchdown proved to be the winning points. Other positives: They converted off a turnover (the only time in four takeaways) and capitalized in the red zone.
