Jets: Clemens looks good as mini-camp opens

Quick hits from the Jets' morning mini-camp in Hempstead, N.Y.

Following stretching, the Jets broke up into groups at 10:20 a.m. and went through their drills with chatter, enthusiasm and spirit.

In a surprise, rookie quarterback Kellen Clemens, who threw the ball well, directed the first-team in the morning session but Chad Pennington later explained that there's a rotation system and each of the four quarterbacks gets regular turns with the first team.

Pennington threw the ball well and appeared to throw it with ease. He completed nine of 11 passes in the morning sessions with his longest a 35-yarder to Laveraneus Coles. Afterwards, he said he felt fine and will participate in the afternoon session - his first two-a-day workout since his surgery.

RB Curtis Martin, who is coming off arthroscopic knee surgery, practice and showed no ill-effects of the surgery.

Defensively, the Jets opened in a 3-4 defensive alignment with Dewayne Robertson at the nose.
