Another player has left Edmonton.

Peca

The Toronto Maple Leafs have scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. on Tuesday to announce that they have agreed to terms with free-agent center Michael Peca. The Leafs are likely hoping Peca can fill the void left by Eric Lindros, who signed with the Stars on Monday.

Terms were not disclosed, but The Sports Network of Canada reported on its Web site that Peca agreed to a one-year, $2.5-million deal.

After a lackluster regular season, Peca turned in a strong postseason for the Oilers and was key in the team's run to the Stanley Cup finals. Peca posted six goals, five assists and was a plus-5 in 24 playoff games and was a reliable faceoff specialist for Edmonton.

Peca, who earned $3.99 million last season, lives in Buffalo during the offseason.

Peca has 394 career points in 693 regular-season games with Vancouver, Buffalo, the Islanders and Edmonton.

Rule 456(B)(2) of the NHL bylaws requires that every superstar by the end of his career must have a bloated career-ending contract with either the Wings, Leafs or Rangers to fund their retirement.
