NOLAN ON HOLD UNTIL WEDNESDAY

A league source tells us that 49ers coach Mike Nolan doesn't expect to hear anything regarding his status with the team until Wednesday.

The source believes that it is not going to go well for Nolan.

Another source thinks that the issue is the unwillingness of the Yorks to lose assistant head coach Mike Singletary to teams like the Falcons or the Ravens. Apparently, Singletary and sure-fire 2007 NFL defensive rookie of the year Patrick Willis have a close relationship, and the Yorks are concerned that the departure of Singletary could hamper the development of Willis.

Since the offensive coached staff is going to be blew . . . blown . . . blowed out regardless of whether Nolan stays or goes, dumping Nolan and giving the job to Singletary wouldn't be much more disruptive.

The other interesting dynamic here is that agent Bob Lamont represents Nolan and Singletary -- and also Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Word is that Martz is pushing for a lateral move to San Fran, and Lamont likely will be a key figure in how all of this works out.

Moreover, to the extent that the Yorks' decision to keep Nolan is premised on whether they can work out in advance a contract with Singletary to take over the job, Lamont is smack dab in the middle of a clear conflict of interest.

If this is true at all the Jets should immedietly fire Sutton and try to hire Nolan as the DC.
