BTW I've seen much whining on Calvin Pace's contract and how we signed him to be this top notch pass rusher extraordinaire:

6 years 42 million 22 in guarantees - Pace (March 2008)

6 years 78 million 40 million guarantees - Ware (Oct. 2009)

6 years 63 million 38 million in guarantees - Suggs (Summer 2009)

Pace got paid more than a guy like Shaun Phillips, who got paid a year earlier, was a 4th round pick, and never hit FA. Phillips was a guy who was signed as the perfect compliment to then superstud Shawne Merrman. Funnily enough, the Jets drafted a DE/OLB with a top 10 pick the year they signed Pace.

Pace was never brought in to be the super stud pass rusher...first off because those guys rarely hit the open market and second because he'd have gotten more than he got on the open market. He was brought in to add talent to a position the Jets lacked talent at more than he was brought in to be the savior of the D...Would have been perceived as a great signing if things worked out a little different over the past three-four years (most specifically Gholston).
