kelticwizard
Some discussion has come up about what qualifies as a good 40 yd dash time. It varies by position, obviously. Here's the impression I get for the "speed" positions: WR, CB: 4.4, 4.5 Safety, Receiving TE: 4.6 Blocking TE: 4.7, 4.8 Agree or disagree?

kelticwizard
Anybody have any ranges of speed times they feel are more accurate? Just for illustration, here are the top 7 WR in terms of receiving yards in 2012, with their 40 yard times. These are the guys you would expect to be real burners. Calvin Johnson 4.33 Andre Johnson 4.41 Brandon Marshall 4.56 Demaryius Thomas 4.38 Vincent Jackson 4.46 Dez Bryant 4.24 Reggie Wayne 4.45 3 are under 4.4 3 are between 4.40 and 4.49 1 is over 4.5 We can expect the average of this group to be somewhat higher than for wideouts in the league generally. And I'm not even counting slot receivers.

IPack
The forty yard dash is so overrated. Let me know what the guy runs in the second, third, and fourth quarters then we can talk. In fact, lets wait until we've timed that player during plays in a game. Does he use that speed at every chance, can be elevate to a faster speed when the adrenaline is pumping? You want an example of real speed. It's Torry Holt, he ran at 4.3 levels every down in all four quarters, same thing for Adrian Peterson.
