faba Posted August 13, 2014 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Practice report: Say goodbye to Cortland August, 13, 2014 2:20 PM ET By Rich Cimini | ESPNNewYork.com 0 0 COMMENTS0 EMAIL PRINT CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Takeaways from the New York Jets' final open practice in Cortland: Light and wet: After several days in pads, the Jets went to "shells" for what amounted to a glorified walk-through. In a light rain, they focused on game prep, with the first and second teams running plays at three-quarters speed against the scout teams. They face the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday night. The Jets will remain in Cortland until Thursday, breaking camp after a closed walk-through. Medical report: Wide receiver Eric Decker(quadriceps), who practiced Tuesday after sitting out three days, didn't participate in any of the lighter-than-usual team drills. Presumably, this was precautionary, as he's expected to play against the Bengals. How much he plays is a question. ... Tight end Jeff Cumberland, who left Tuesday's practice with tightness in his non-surgical Achilles' tendon, didn't practice. He wasn't even spotted on the field. Rex Ryan continued to downplay the injury, saying he expects Cumberland to play. ... CornerbackDimitri Patterson (quadriceps, calf, ankle) remained on the sideline. He hasn't practiced all week, so it's doubtful that he'll play. ... Cornerbacks Jeremy Reeves (knee) and Ras-I Dowling (groin) were limited, as was running back Chris Ivory (ribs). Ivory is expected to play. Quarterback talk: Rookie Tajh Boyd worked exclusively with the scout team, but he's expected to make his NFL debut Saturday night. Ryan didn't specify the quarterback rotation for the game, but it'll be Geno Smith, Michael Vick and Boyd, in that order. Ryan said he's not sure if Matt Simms will get into the game. Simms played the second half in the opener. New-look secondary: No official word on who will start in the secondary, but it looks like it'll be Antonio Allen and Ellis Lankster at cornerback, Dawan Landry and Jaiquawn Jarrett at safety and Kyle Wilson in the slot. Rookie safety Calvin Pryor got some reps with the first team in practice and will be rotated with the starters in the game. The backup corners probably will be Darrin Walls and Johnny Patrick. On Wednesday, five of the 11 corners on the roster were nursing injuries. Fantastic finish: After practice, the entire Jets team, including general manager John Idzik and the coaching staff, took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, issued by the New England Patriots. The Cortlandville Fire Department, using a crane-mounted fire hose, doused the entire group with cold water. It was a cool (no pun intended) way to end Camp Cortland. Jets Voice of Reason Posted August 13, 2014 Share Posted August 13, 2014 It's for ALS, a.k.a Lou Gehrig's disease. A really really terrible neurodegenerative disease and I'm glad it's getting more awareness/donations. Basically, people with the disease start losing control of their body over time to the point where they become paralyzed and it becomes fatal.
