AFJF
Not sure if somebody didn't know Sexton also represented Rex, but this story makes it sound as if the Jets contacted Sexton to ask about another one of his clients, which is when Rex started clearing out his office. MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- The Jets can't even fire a coach right. In an impressive piece of dysfunctional behavior from an organization that seems to master in it, "somebody involved" in the search for coach Rex Ryan's potential replacement reached out to Ryan's agent, Jimmy Sexton, to inquire about a candidate. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported that news Sunday, as the Jets prepared for their season finale at Miami. Did the Jets (or whoever called Sexton) think that Sexton wouldn't tell Ryan about this? The Jets have retained former NFL general manager Charley Casserly as a consultant for their likely coach/GM searches. Glazer did not clarify whether Casserly or someone else in the Jets' organization reached out to Sexton about Ryan's potential replacement. The call to Sexton might be how Ryan learned that the Jets were already looking for his replacement, which led to Ryan beginning to clean out his office last week. Ryan also caught wind of the possibility that owner Woody Johnson might let general manager John Idzik's potential replacement decide whether or not to retain Ryan. (Idzik is expected to be fired, as Casserly has also started making contacts for his replacement.) Keeping Ryan and letting the new GM decide his fate would be an extremely unorthodox move by Johnson, since it seems unlikely that any new GM would want to retain Ryan, coming off a season in which the Jets enter the finale with a 3-12 record, and a playoff drought of four years. Ryan is angry about Johnson perhaps letting him twist. This is really a simple process for Johnson: Fire the GM and coach, hire a new GM, and let him pick the new coach. But like so many other things during Johnson's nearly 15 years of ownership, the Jets can't seem to get this right.
Integrity28
1. If Rex didn't see his firing coming before the Sexton call, he is a dumb as I thought. 2. Rex has consumed 6 years of resources and time for the Jets and their fans, he lost every right to being "angry" if he feels he is twisting in the wind. **** him. C Mart
Via NY Post Another source said Casserly has done no work for the Jets so far, but has begun researching coaches for his role with the NFL Career Advisory Board, which advises teams on coaching and GM hires.
