Spiller Ryan Mathews/Jahvid Best Knowshown Moreno/Donald Brown Beanie Wells/Darren McFadden (ONCE IN A GENERATION) Jonathan Stewart/Felix Jones Rashard Mendenhaal/Chris Johnson Adrien Peterson/Marshawn Lynch Lawrence Maroney/Reggie Bush (ONCE IN A GENERATION) DeAngelo Williams/Joseph Addai Ronnie Brown/Cedric Benson Cadillac Williams/Steven Jackson Chris Perry/Kevin Jones Willis McGahee/Larry Johnson William Green/T.J. Duckett LaDainian Tomlinson/Deuce McAllister Jamal Lewis/Thomas Jones Ron Dayne/Shaun Alexander Trung Canidate There is a HUGE bust potential, so taking one at 6 is very risky. I ask the suporters of Leonard Fournette and Dalvin Cook. Are these guys REALLY going to be worth that much more to the team potentially, with the given potential bust possibility, than say taking a guy like Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara, D'Onta Foreman who could all be there when we pick in the 2nd round? Christian Hackenberg has now been anonymously ripped by a coach and player, been deemed undraftable by PFF, questioned by beat writers and was generally regarded as a reach by most, if not all, of the draft community. We are no fans of anonymous quotes, using PFF as a Bible instead of a tool and know beat writers can be wrong more often than right. Yet, at what point do those of you who get so infuriated by skepticism of Hackenberg begin to think there might be fire where there is smoke? The Jets need to proceed into this offseason as if they do not have their quarterback of the future of the future on the roster. They need to proceed as if they don’t have a quarterback for 2017 on their roster. Bryce Petty spent his second season repeatedly getting hurt and looking like he might have been overdrafted in the 4th round. He is already 26 before next season. Hackenberg spent the year being a part time scout team quarterback and couldn’t adequately push Petty or Geno Smith. When he played in the pre-season, he completed 34% of his passes and had a 3.4 YPA. The Jets need to be aggressive at quarterback this offseason. 2. When it comes to available veterans, it is Tyrod Taylor and then everybody else. There is no metric, logic or tape that shows Mike Glennon, Brian Hoyer, Josh McCown or Jay Cutler to be a better option. Tony Romo isn’t happening. He will be in Denver or Houston. Considering the cap space the Jets should be able to free up, signing Taylor to a 2-3 year deal at around 15 million per year is far from a bad option depending on how you feel about this draft class. 3. I am currently seeing many people saying the Jets need to pass on a quarterback this year, tank another season and then take USC’s Sam Darnold. At this time last year, many were saying the Jets need to do the same thing for Deshaun Watson. Believe it or not, there was a time in the past, where a year in advance, people were saying the Jets needed to do the same thing for Geno Smith and Matt Barkley. We have no idea what the next year will hold for the 2018 draft board, so let’s keep the focus on 2017. 4. The Jets are likely to have a crack at one of the consensus top three quarterbacks with the 6th overall pick: Mitch Trubisky, DeShone Kizer or Deshaun Watson. Patrick Mahomes is getting the most buzz as of now as a second round option, although it is early in the process. We’ll dive deeper into all the prospects, particularly at quarterback. But for now, Kizer feels like the biggest project with the most upside, Trubisky the most polarizing and Watson still arguably the best overall prospect. It is a little hard to trust this regime’s judgement after the Petty and Hackenberg pick but expect to see a quarterback regularly mocked to the Jets in the coming months… 5. Whatever you think the Jets should get back for Sheldon Richardson in a trade, lower your expectations. They will be lucky to get a 4th rounder. Over the past two seasons, Richardson has been suspended twice and has a grand total of 6.5 sacks. He is also on the record as wanting a monster payday and has had issues within the Jets locker room. There is no doubt he is tremendously talented but teams aren’t going to pay a premium for the baggage he brings, especially when the production doesn’t back it up the past two years. 6. Two free agents to watch on the Houston Texans: cornerback AJ Bouye and tight end Ryan Griffin. Two free agents to watch on the New England Cheaters: Logan Ryan and Dont’a Hightower. 7. Who do you feel really good about in the Jets back 8 right now moving forward? It is scary how difficult it is to answer that question. David Harris might have one year left. Darron Lee had an okay rookie year but still has plenty to prove. The same goes for Jordan Jenkins. Lorenzo Mauldin regressed in year two. Calvin Pryor regressed in year three. Darrelle Revis should be cut. Marcus Gilchrist should be cut. Buster Skrine had a down year and has recurring concussion issues. Juston Burris flashed at times but is he ready to be a full time starter? 8. If the Jets are smart they will re-sign both Brian Winters and Wesley Johnson to start next season alongside James Carpenter. They still need to find a left tackle and . There are some potential young pieces here but they need somebody to compete with Brandon Shell at right tackle to keep adding depth and talent, particularly at tackle. 9. I’m aware many disagree, I still the Jets are best served by moving on from Brandon Marshall, restructuring Eric Decker and handing major reps/targets to Quincy Enunwa, Robby Anderson and Charone Peake next season, with Jalin Marshall and Devin Smith rounding out the depth chart. Go young and go find a traditional Y tight end. 10. Hopefully the Jets think outside the box for their offensive coordinator hire. Go find a hungry, young innovative mind, instead of cycling back a retread from somewhere else. Todd Bowles needs somebody who is going to push him 11. Todd Bowles should make a statement by making the captains on this team come from the new crop of young talent, who need to be leaders going forward. Leonard Williams, Quincy Enunwa, Bilal Powell and others can be captains despite their age. With all the roster turnover coming, clearly demonstrating who is “doing it right” around the locker room and on the field is an important move to make. 12.
