INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 25, 2007) -- At one time at the scouting combine, Robert Gallery was 'The Can't Miss Tackle'.

Now he's 'The Tackle on the Move'.

Raiders tackle Robert Gallery is in search of continued NFL success.

In a reshuffling of their offensive line, the Raiders are moving Gallery from left tackle back to right tackle, and moving guard Barry Sims off the bench and back to left tackle, a member of Oakland's coaching staff confirmed this weekend.

The moves are an attempt to overhaul an offensive line that allowed an egregious 72 sacks last season. To round out the offensive line, the Raiders plan to keep Jake Grove at center and play former third-round pick Paul McQuistan at left guard and former sixth-round pick Kevin Boothe at right guard.

The thinking behind the switches is to get more speed and skill on the field, at the proper positions. The Raiders coaches believe Sims is better suited to the offensive line's toughest position, particularly at a time when Gallery is attempting to regain the confidence he lost.

Until he becomes the confident player he was when he was at the Combine coming out of Iowa, Gallery will be stationed at right tackle. And the Raiders will continue tinkering with an offensive line that did little right last season.

ON THE BLOCK

While Buffalo's Willis McGahee is asking for a new deal, the Bills are open to the idea of dealing their running back.

One Bills official confirmed Sunday that the team would be willing to trade McGahee for the right offer. What has caused Buffalo to look is McGahee's desire to land a new contract, the type that his agent, Drew Rosenhaus landed for another of his client's and McGahee's former college teammate, Clinton Portis.

The New York Giants, in desperate need of a back to replace Tiki Barber, are one of the teams that are interested in McGahee. And there will be others.

The problem with any deal will be having to satisfy two parties. Any team trading for McGahee will have to compensate him with a new contract and the team that is dealing him. It will be challenging, but hardly impossible to get done.

And Buffalo's backfield could be in a serious state of flux. Not only is McGahee on the block, but his backup is veteran Anthony Thomas, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.

Buffalo faces many questions this offseason, none bigger than who is going to be the stallion in their backfield.

CUTS COMING

In the days ahead, look for teams to avoid paying certain players roster bonuses due in early March while trying to create more salary cap space.

Some of the players expected to be released in the coming week include Dolphins quarterback Joey Harrington -- who is due a $1 million dollar roster bonus -- and Vikings cornerback Fred Smoot and quarterback Brad Johnson.

Smoot is due a $2 million roster bonus. Should the Vikings cut him before paying him the bonus, they would save $400,000 in salary cap space and nearly $5 million in cash.

So tack Smoot on to the list of cornerbacks who will be free to sign with another team.

A NEW CARR

After watching the college quarterbacks this weekend and further assessing the potential free-agent class, the Houston Texans came away even more convinced that David Carr will be their quarterback this season.

Up until now, the Texans have said they would listen to offers for Carr, but never have committed to trading him. And upon further review, Texans officials now believe that Carr is their best alternative and they won't be making a trade for Denver's Jake Plummer or any other quarterback.

EAGLES NEXT

Rewarding A.J. Feeley with a four-year, $7.2 million contract that includes a $2 million signing bonus is the surest sign to date that the Eagles do not expect free agent quarterback Jeff Garcia to return.

Within the past few weeks, there has been a growing sense within the Eagles organization that Garcia will opt for a contract in another city with another team. One of the leading contenders for his services will be the Denver Broncos, whom Garcia nearly signed with two years ago.

Instead, Garcia opted for the Cleveland Browns in a move that temporarily derailed his career. He revived it last season in Philadephia but now looks like he will be moving on again.

HARDEST HANDSHAKE

The players at this weekend's combine were strong, some very strong.

No player could have shaken hands as hard as Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson. He nearly crushed every reporter's hand he shaked. If Peterson is as powerful on the field as he is with his right hand, then he's going to have a Hall-of-Fame career
