JetCane
Canes improve stock at Pro Timing Day CaneSport.com Staff CaneSport.com From Rivals: The Hurricanes held Pro Timing Day at Greentree Practice Field, but there were no head coaches or coordinators on campus. It was a gathering of approximately 50 scouts, assistant coaches and player personnel directors. They saw several UM players perform well. Read on for that as well as an injury update on Jason Fox. ______________________________________________________ SFJ, this was another crop of subpar coker players, maybe even lighter than last year's class which included Eric Winston and Sinorice Moss. University of Miami (Fla.) DL Kareem Brown- He's a 310 lb DT who is kinda soft really. He isnt Wilfork, or Jerome brown (RIP), and he's not the next great DT to come out of UM, which will be Antonio Dixon in a couple of years. Maybe if someone lights a fire under his ass, he will become a player. A late rounder. University of Miami (Fla.) DB Brandon Meriweather - In his first season, he got trucked and bowled over by Quincy something, out of WVU, on national TV. After that, he came back stronger, and put his share of hits on people. He's no Ed Reed or Sean Taylor, but he'll be slightly better than Eric Smith. University of Miami (Fla.) LB Jon Beason - Beason may be the best player coming out of The U this year on the defensive side of the ball. He wont take over a game like Morgan or Ray Lewis did, and probably not as good as DJ Williams, either. But, eventually he'll be a better LB than Cassell and Chatham. He could be more like a Hobson. He played at about 235, and could get a little bigger by next year. A sleeper coming out that I like is: Anthony Wollschlager C (6-4 3/8, 297 pounds) ran 5.39 and 5.42 in the 40-yard dash, 5.02 in the short shuttle and 7.87 in the three-cone drill. He also had a 27-inch vertical jump, 8-foot-3 long jump and 23 strength lifts. I think he'll be a nice center for someone in the NFL, as he did surprisingly well at Miami. A hard worker. He has some experience playing guard, too. Another guy who I like as a late round sleeper-type is Baraka Atkins DE - had a 31-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-4 long jump and ran 4.67 in the short and 7.02 in the three-cone drill. He really came on late in his senior year. Could be a late bloomer. Has the size and good speed and instincts.
