Training Camp: Players To Watch For - RB Stacy TuttJuly 17th, 2007 by Gary Grund

RB - Stacy Tutt

Stacy Tutt was brought on by the Jets when he signed as a undrafted free agent in May of 2006. Tutt played quarterback in college at Richmond and threw for 2,219 yards including 16 touchdowns in his senior season. In addition to quarterback, Tutt also came out of the backfield and lined up as a receiver for Richmond during his collegiate career. Combining his passing and rushing accomplishments, it would make him one of the greatest players to ever play at Richmond.

When the Jets signed Tutt last year, they approached him with the intention of converting him into an H-Back. He was very excited about it to say the least with his experience in many different positions on the gridiron. He has good size to be an H-Back, standing at 6′2″ and weighing 235 pounds. The Jets would like Tutt to develop a role similar to Chris Cooley with the Washington Redskins, being able to playing runningback, fullback and tight end at anytime or in any situational play. Tutt spent the majority of the 2006 season on the practice squad.

The Jets signed Darian Barnes in the offseason to play fullback. However, Barnes and Tutt are players with two completely different types of skills. Tutt is more inclined to be utilized in the run game or the passing game, where as Darian Barnes would likely be used to solely be a blocker in every play he is put in. Tutt will have a good chance to make the team as a backup fullback, but his versatility on the field at many positions may be the factor to keeping him remain on the active roster.
