Injuries Won't Help Revis Negotiations

Over the last few days, the Jets have suffered two significant injuries in their secondary.

First, Justin Miller suffered a pulled hamstring during the team's practice at Fordham on Sunday. And then at the Wednesday morning practice, safety Eric Smith, had to be carted off the field with what appears to be a serious knee injury. It's unknown when they will be back. And whatever Eric Mangini knows about the injuries, he isn't telling us.

These are two key players in the Jets nickel package, and remember defenses play a lot of nickel these days, but don't expect this to impact the Darrelle Revis holdout.

While they could certainly use Revis, who is also slated to play in the nickel, these injuries aren't going to change the Jets position. They want the rookie cornerback to sign a six-year deal, and they aren't backing away from that position. Revis' camp is demanding a five-year contract.

True there haven't been a lot of six-year deals for 2007 rookies, but don't feel bad for Revis. We hear the Jets have sweetened the pot to make the extra year worth his while. There is plenty of front-loaded money.

Darrelle - just sign the deal! Don't worry about this contract hurting your agent's ability to get future clients.
