Scott Dierking
I read that he was all set to retire after his contract expired in 2009. Now he gets a 3 year extension. Wonder why........... The Comissioner position is there for only ONE reason-and that is to be a lackey for the owners. It is designated by teh owners, and the position answers to teh owners, ostensibly. It is a terrible position to be in. You can't win. But, if anyone thinks that the Comissioner's position is to be one of representing the best ineterests of the sport, or the fan, that would be incorrect. Boozer76
This guy single handedly ruined baseball by allowing, and even encouraging steroid use. Only when it became blatntly obvious and affected the hallowed records of baseball did Selig finally decide to do something. He's a bona-fide *******. His power and authority is severly limited and any actions that are taken come from the interests of the owners. It is a lame duck position.
