Bishop Harris Is Gone

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Jets running backs coach Bishop Harris left the team Tuesday, ending a four-year stint in which he was best known for nearly coming to blows with coach Herman Edwards during a playoff game.

Harris was en route to the San Francisco 49ers, and is expected to be their running backs coach.

Harris and Edwards got into a shouting match during the third quarter of the Jets' 20-17 overtime victory over San Diego last January. Fullback Jerald Sowell had to restrain the two coaches. After walking away, Harris said something else and Edwards turned back toward his assistant, and they nearly traded punches.

At the time, Edwards said, "He's a heck of a football coach, that was an incident, it's over with, and we're fine." Harris repeatedly denied comment.

Dick Curl, the assistant to the head coach, will take over for Harris. Curl had his share of problems last season in several time management situations, after he was given the job to help Edwards with the clock.

In another move, the Jets waived injured cornerback Jamie Henderson after he failed a physical. Henderson was injured in a motorcycle accident in Carrollton, Ga., in April 2004, but the Jets signed him last September and placed him on the reserved non-football injury list.

Henderson missed the entire 2004 season while he rehabbed in Georgia, but Edwards promised Henderson that he would save his No. 23. Though his days with the Jets appear to be over, Henderson continues to rehab under the supervision of Georgia's head trainer and strength coach.

The Jets also hired Markus Paul as director of physical development, Sal Alosi as assistant director of physical development, and waived receiver Donovan Morgan and tackle Alonzo Shuler.
