Brett Favre needed less than seven minutes on Sunday to christen a new season and put his signature on what the Jets desperately hope will be a great surge.

With 8 minutes 52 seconds left in the first quarter, Favre rifled a pass to wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who had slipped behind two defenders. The ball traveled 50 yards and landed in Cotchery
