Arians Speaks Highly Of Bowles

Last year Todd Bowles was the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. His head coach was Bruce Arians, who is off to a great start as a head coach. In two seasons with the Cardinals, Arians has 21 wins and 11 losses. In 2012 he was the Colts interim head coach and the team went 9 and 3 under his reign. Arians had some good things to say about his former defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

Kristian Dyer has the full story on Metro NY but here are some quotes:

“I love the fact that he brought in (offensive coordinator) Chan Gailey and he wanted a veteran offensive coach who has had a lot of success in the league. Chan’s record, he’s always been to Super Bowls so they can turn it over and trust him. I love the staff,” Arians told Metro.

“I was pushing as hard as I could for him to be a head coach. I thought he’d be a head coach before I was, it was a matter of finding the right spot for him. He had almost every opportunity with the jobs that were open. He felt very comfortable in New York.”

The last sentence could prove to be the most important. As we all know, it isn’t easy to coach in this market. Feeling comfortable here is a good start.

Great article.

I am not so concerned about Bowles being comfortable. I just think he will be fine.

I think folks get in trouble in NYC by not being themselves and playing up to the media. Just be you and you are fine. Parcells fine. Edwards fine. Rex fine. Only Mangini tried to be little Bill at times to his own detriment.

What is by far more intriguing to me is this constant refrane from players and now Arians alike is that Bowles will mold the talent he has to be in their best position.

Not since we had the gremlin Bill Beichick on the sidelines did we have a coach really know how to do this. The closest also deserving mention was coach Carroll but he was here for so short a period of time that he can't be compared to what he is today.

For while Rex was a absolutely phenomenal mind on the defensive side of the ball along with Petite the emphasis has always been on their schemes not players. Hence the reason why I feel we saw so little actual development of key personnel.

Perhaps and this is is a big maybe we get production out of some folks who were not scheme compatable for Rex's system?

Anyway we all will see, again nice article!!

I sure hope this is right!

Bowles has been advertised as someone who fits the defense to the players.  Rex was creative but the whole OLB thing just bothered me (Coples).

Thanks.
